Top 25 OBP Outfield Prospects (25-11)
Moving on to my Top 25 OF prospects! I’ll try to shorten these write-ups a bit since there’s 25 instead of the usual 10.
25. Ceddanne Rafaela - Age 23.156 - Red Sox
Height: 5’9“ Weight: 165lb Bats: Right Throws: Right
Fresh off a huge breakout in 2022, Ceddanne was hoping to keep it rolling into 2023. The Curacao native did just that, posting a massive .302/.349/.520 (.870 OPS) line with 20 HR and 36 SB before getting promoted to the majors later in the season where he largely struggled. Though, given the age and skill level, I’m not too concerned with the early troubles. Rafaela’s biggest issues are his lack of ability to walk (5.4% BB%) and chasing out of the strike-zone. That said, 20 HR with 36 SB in the upper minors as a 22-year-old bodes well for an intriguing power/speed combo in a right-handed hitter-friendly park, and his elite defense in CF will ensure he’s an MLB regular when his time calls.
For 2024, Rafaela is locked in a camp battle to earn the starting CF job out of spring training. For his peak projection, I have him at .280/.325/.500 (.825 OPS) with 20 HR and 35 SB, but it may be a few years before he achieves that, and I’d expect some growing pains along the way.
